Our History

Texas Youth Ballet Conservatory was founded in 2010 as an arts resident of the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Almost immediately, a collaboration was born with Ballet Magnificat! and a workshop occurred at the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Youth Ballet of Texas was founded in 2012 as a non-profit 501(c)3 ballet company, and that first year, YBT brought in Ballet Magnificat! for a performance of Deliver Us! at the Eisemann in Richardson, for which our company dancers opened the performance with an original work Pavane. That year, YBT also collaborated with The Organ Society in performance. As the conservatory grew, the MPAC became inadequate for its needs. The school moved to McDonald Plaza, at 901 N. McDonald, and began performing not only at the MPAC, but also at McKinney North High School. YBT also performed for the Collin McKinney 250th birthday celebration, and other city events. YBT performed steadily including another opening for Ballet Magnificat! at the Eisemann in 2018, for their performance of Light Has Come. YBT performed traditional full-length ballets - Cinderella, Coppelia, Firebird, La Boutique Fantasque, Seasons, Komediante, Peter and the Wolf, and original ballets - Diana the Dancing Dinosaur, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Pixie Holiday, Sanctus, and others. Our performing came to a stop with the shutdown in 2020.

During the shutdown, we took stock of where we were and what was still unaccomplished in the original goals of the school and company. This led to the realization that separate was not going to be as strong as one, non-profit entity. The merger took place January of 2021, forming Texas Youth Ballet, both conservatory and company under one roof. Immediately, we were able to breathe new life into the scholarship programs, and new opportunities for Company performances opened up. We are excited for the future of TYB. Join us and be a part of TYB’s exciting future.
